Assault rifle by definition: a rapid-fire magazine-fed automatic rifle designed for infantry use. An AR-15 is not an assault rifle. Just to educate the unknowing, AR does not stand for “assault rifle.” It stands for ArmaLite, the company that designed the rifle and later sold the patent to Colt’s Manufacturing Company in 1959. Why is it after a mass shooting, televised and dramatized nationally and promoted by mainstream media, the first thing that gets attention is the type of gun used?

Next, they focus on race, gender or religion to see what kind of divide and hate they can create. Never in history has any weapon – let alone a gun – walked in to a school, church, theater, club or anywhere else and killed someone. There was always some disturbed person behind the weapon.

Most of these disturbed individuals are seeking attention or some sort of recognition. How about we never mention these individuals by name or show their faces on television? That doesn’t make for good drama but when has it ever helped a victim, their family or society?

Remove the glory they seek and maybe that’s enough to detour their quest for fame. It’s as good as any resolution presented thus far. Gun control political promoters always focus on restricting law abiding citizens, knowing full well criminals won’t comply. The problem is not the weapon – it’s the wielder.
