Sunday, Aug. 13

1:47 a.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 1600 block of East MacArthur Avenue on suspicion of underage consumption of alcohol. When police responded to a report of a disturbance in the area, the man reportedly tried to run away, leading a responding officer to grab him by the arm, after which the suspect lost his balance and fell to the ground. The man reportedly complained of shoulder pain and said he wanted to file a complaint of excessive force. He reportedly said he ran because he was under 21 and had drunk beer, and was scared of going to jail. A backpack found at the scene contained several packages of marijuana and a glass pipe, but police were unable to determine who it belonged to.

2:13 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 400 block of North Roger Smith Avenue on suspicion of being intoxicated in the roadway after officers reportedly found him lying on the fog line in the street. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

11:38 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 600 block of South Washington Street on two warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges.

6:47 p.m.: A man was issued a summons on suspicion of shoplifting and trespassing at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. Store employees claimed he had tried to steal a backpack.

8:10 p.m.: Two men were arrested at Mesa Verde Inn, 640 S. Broadway, on La Plata County warrants for failure to appear on misdemeanor charges after another guest claimed they had gotten into a fight after drinking in their motel room. Both men were medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication, and one man was also treated for a cut on his forehead.

10:29 p.m.: Two women were issued summonses on suspicion of shoplifting at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. Store employees claimed they had tried to steal a pair of shoes, packages of medicine and lip balm, valued at $18.74 total.

Monday, Aug. 14

1:53 p.m.: A woman was issued a summons on suspicion of shoplifting at City Market, 508 E. Main St. Store employees claimed she had tried to steal makeup items, a package of razors and a fountain drink. She reportedly claimed she didn’t know how the items had gotten into her cart.

6:12 p.m.: Police responded to a report of shoplifting at City Market, 508 E. Main St. Store employees claimed a woman had left with several Gorilla Glue packages and air fresheners, valued at $15.41 total, without paying. Police were unable to immediately locate the woman, and the case remains under investigation.

11:28 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 200 block of South Madison Street on suspicion of violating a protection order and violating bond conditions after witnesses reported he and another man were banging on the door of a residence and trying to get in. The suspect was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

Tuesday, Aug. 15

3:03 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 800 block of East Main Street on suspicion of disturbing the peace after police responded to a report he was involved in a fight. He reportedly yelled profanity and threats at responding officers when they confronted him and refused to calm down. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

3:19 p.m.: A man was arrested outside Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., on suspicion of violating a protection order. While he was being transported to the jail, he reportedly banged his head against the partition in the patrol car until his forehead started bleeding. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being taken to jail.

6:46 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of North Mildred Road on a warrant for failure to appear on a local felony charge and on suspicion of unlawful possession and distribution of a controlled substance. A bag of meth was found in his pocket and two more bags were found in a binoculars case on the dashboard of his vehicle, containing a total of about 6.6 grams.

10:42 p.m.: A man was served with a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.
