1:13 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 600 block of East Empire Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge after police responded to a report of a disturbance with several people arguing.

9:54 a.m.: Police responded to a report of graffiti vandalism in the 500 block of South Madison Street. A woman reported that both the Manaugh Elementary School and her own fence had been sprayed with graffiti in various colors. The reporting party said the damage to her fence would cost about $200 to fix. The case remains under investigation.

2:56 p.m.: Police responded to a report of damaged property in the 600 block of Lois Lane. A woman claimed someone had cut the electrical cords to three of the garden spot lights around the trees in her yard, causing about $60 in damage. The case remains under investigation.

5:14 p.m.: A man was arrested in the parking lot of City Market, 508 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

8:27 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 1400 block of East Main Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge and on suspicion of speeding 9 mph over the speed limit.

9 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 400 block of East Main Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local felony charge and on suspicion of violating bond conditions and possession of drug paraphernalia. A straw filled with meth residue was found in his pocket.

Thursday, June 15

1:31 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 900 block of Brookside Drive on suspicion of violating a protection order after his girlfriend claimed she was afraid because he had pushed her while intoxicated. The girlfriend was highly intoxicated as well, and responding officers found no evidence of injury, so they did not press domestic violence charges.

2:02 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of South Madison Street on suspicion of second-degree assault, two protection order violations, false imprisonment, domestic violence, reckless endangerment, harassment and child abuse. His ex-girlfriend claimed he had bitten her twice on the arm and had grabbed their daughter away from her. He also reportedly refused to open the door for responding officers until the woman forced it open. When officers tried to arrest the man, he reportedly refused to cooperate, and they pushed him down to the ground in order to handcuff him and carried him to the patrol car on a backboard. While the suspect was being booked into the jail, he reportedly punched a deputy in the face, but the deputy did not press charges.

6:48 p.m.: A woman was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. Store employees claimed she stole $164.62 worth of dog food, hair products, toilet paper, trash bags, perfume, lotion and soft drinks. The woman said she was homeless but had traveled to Cortez to go to the casino.

7:56 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 25000 block of County Road H on three warrants for failure to appear on misdemeanor charges in Dolores and Montezuma Counties. When he was pulled over, the man reportedly refused to leave his car and reached down for something, prompting the responding officer to point his stun gun at him.

Friday, June 16

12 a.m.: A woman turned herself in at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., and was arrested on a warrant for failure to comply in a local felony case.

10:50 a.m.: A woman was cited for failing to maintain an animal that disturbed the peace and a dog at large violation in the 700 block of Hartman Road. A woman claimed the suspect’s dog had attacked her dog, and that it barked constantly and disturbed the peace. The animal control officer couldn’t immediately find the dog’s owner, so she took it to the Cortez Animal Shelter, where the owner met her later in the day.

11:23 a.m.: A man was arrested at Cortez Plaza, 2232 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge. He was medically cleared due to severe intoxication.

1:34 p.m.: A man was arrested at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge after emergency room staff reported he was threatening them.

3:28 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 800 block of South Broadway on suspicion of violating a protection order after police responded to a report that a man was hitting a woman in the area. The woman reportedly appeared to have a red spot on her cheek and blood on her hands, but she denied she had been hit. The man also had minor facial injuries and a hurt leg, but he could not explain how he had been injured, since he was severely intoxicated.

11:28 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 10 block of North Park Street on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se, driving without proof of insurance, displaying an expired temporary permit and child abuse. He was pulled over after an officer reportedly saw him driving backwards on the road and weaving back and forth. A small child was in the vehicle without a seat belt at the time. The suspect was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

11:47 p.m.: A woman was cited for unsafe backing after a traffic accident at the Cozy Inn, 440 S. Broadway. A man claimed she had backed into his vehicle in the parking lot, causing minor damage to the rear bumpers of both vehicles. The woman initially denied that an accident had occurred, but her boyfriend confirmed the other man’s story.

Saturday, June 17

11:08 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 20 block of East 13th Street on suspicion of third-degree assault and domestic violence after her ex-boyfriend reported that she had slapped him while picking up their daughter from his residence.

5:27 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 400 block of East Main Street on three warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges.

10:04 p.m.: A man was issued a summons on suspicion of speeding, DUI and DUI per se in the 1000 block of East Seventh Street.

Sunday, June 18

3:53 a.m.: Two men were arrested in the 400 block of East Third Street. One was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge, and the other on suspicion of driving under restraint and violation of bond conditions. Two hypodermic needles and a spoon with heroin residue was found in their vehicle. The driver reportedly said he knew he had a heroin problem and wanted to leave Cortez because of it. After the two men were arrested, the arresting officer found that their license plates did not match the vehicle, and sought to add a charge of displaying fictitious plates.

Monday, June 19

6:27 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 300 block of North Broadway on suspicion of trespassing and resisting arrest after a man reported he had cracked a windshield on his vehicle and was refusing to leave his property. He reportedly threatened to fight the responding officers and struggled when they tried to handcuff him. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

6:29 p.m.: Police responded to a report of criminal mischief in the 500 block of East Montezuma Avenue. The words “I’m Drunk” were spray-painted on a woman’s fence, causing an estimated $120 in damage. The woman said it was just the latest incident in a trend of people walking through her yard and leaving a mess. The case remains under investigation.
