Wednesday, Aug. 23

9:16 a.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Court, 601 N. Mildred Road, on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.

12:46 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 500 block of East Montezuma Avenue on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.

2:02 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 200 block of Piñon Drive on suspicion of violating a protection order and violating bond conditions.

4:27 p.m.: A man was turned in by a bondsman and arrested at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.

6:37 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 1400 block of East Main Street on a warrant for failure to comply on a local misdemeanor charge after he was pulled over for a traffic violation.

7:54 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 400 block of East Main Street on suspicion of violating a protection order, obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest after police responded to a report of a disturbance in the area. When police confronted him, the man reportedly “darted away” from them and went into a boxing stance, leading the responding officers to tackle him to the ground. While they were searching him for weapons, he reportedly slammed his head into the patrol car. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being taken to jail, due to a small cut and a large bruise he apparently sustained during the arrest, and due to severe alcohol and marijuana intoxication. He reportedly continued to bang his head against the patrol car partition while being taken to jail, and continued to fight officers during the booking process.

Thursday, Aug. 24

3:52 a.m.: A man was served with a warrant for failure to appear on an out-of-county misdemeanor charge at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

9:08 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 2800 block of East Main Street on suspicion of DUI, cruelty to animals, an open container violation and failing to signal as required after police responded to a report of a fight at nearby Denny Lake Park. The man was reportedly pulled over after he turned onto Main Street from the park without using a turn signal. He reportedly said he had gotten into a fight with his dog after drinking. The dog, a beagle mix, and an open can of beer were found in the man’s vehicle. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication and a cut on his nose. The dog was taken to the Cortez Animal Shelter.

Friday, Aug. 25

9:38 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 800 block of North Edith Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local felony charge.

12:10 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Court, 601 N. Mildred Road, on a warrant for failure to appear on a local felony charge.

2:40 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 30 block of North Maple Street on suspicion of disturbing the peace after another woman reported she had come to her house uninvited and refused to leave. The woman was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

5:44 p.m.: A woman was arrested at Cork N’ Bottle liquor store, 443 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge after police responded to a report she was exposing herself in public. Although she was reportedly drinking from a can of beer when police contacted her, a breath test showed she was not intoxicated.

11:30 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 500 block of South Madison Street on suspicion of disturbing the peace, resisting arrest and mistreating a police dog after officers responded to a report she was fighting with another woman. Witnesses claimed she had tried to take the other woman’s purse and had fought when the woman tried to stop her. The suspect reportedly fought with police and sheriff’s deputies who came to assist throughout her arrest. A police officer exposed her to a stun gun when she refused to get into the patrol vehicle. A police K9 was in another section of the same vehicle, and the woman reportedly threatened to kill the dog while banging her head against the partition. When the officer driving the car stopped and opened the door to tell her to stop banging her head, she reportedly tried to kick him, leading him to deploy the stun gun again. The woman reportedly continued to resist and shout racial slurs at jail staff throughout the booking process.
