Thursday, March 28

10:17 a.m. An officer served two warrants to a woman in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

4:51 p.m. A woman claiming to be distracted by her children in the Slavens True Value Hardware, 237 W. Main St., was charged with shoplifting items totaling $12.28 and trespassed after surveillance showed her actions on video disproved her recollection of the allegations of shoplifting.

10:20 p.m. A man was trespassed from Speedway, 921 E. Main St. After multiple reminders that the parking lot and the retaining wall at the gas station was still a part of the property, the man was cited with a trespassing summons.

Friday, March 29

8:58 a.m. A man reportedly found a baggie containing a crystalline substance in it when he stepped out of his vehicle at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. The man turned it in to the Cortez Police Station.

9:58 a.m. An officer took a report from an employee of Walmart, 1825 E. Main St., for a shoplifting incident. The employee reported that a man was witnessed who is known by employees to be trespassed went into the store obtained a shopping cart, and directed a child he was with to put a blanket in the cart. The surveillance video shows the man hiding an “electronic air duster” under the blanket, and puts three packages of gloves in the cart. The man attempts to return the gloves to the customer service desk, but is denied as he has no proof of purchasing them or having brought them in by the security surveillance footage. The man throws the gloves at the employee and leaves the store with the hidden air duster. The officer filled out a summons for trespassing and shoplifting.

11:23 a.m. A woman reported her vehicle was broken into in the 20 block of S. Beech Street. The woman requested charges be pressed against the suspect who broke her $600 driver’s side window, took a $2,000 Think Book laptop, a $1,000 Bully Dog programmer chip, and a bag containing miscellaneous items valued at $500.

11:30 a.m. A woman was arrested and cited with theft and possession of burglary tools when employees recognized her as the woman on a Facebook sales group selling merchandise that was missing from inventory counts at Slavens True Value Hardware, 237 W. Main St. Big R, 1319 E. Main St., also had surveillance and Facebook post photos of items missing from their inventory that matched items in her posts. The woman’s phone was confiscated as evidence when an officer noticed a contact name “DeWalt Tool Buyer” when she asked him if he could look up phone numbers in her phone while she was in custody at the Montezuma County Detention Center.

2:37 p.m. An officer observed a man known to be trespassed from City Market, 508 E. Main St., walking in front of the south entrance of the store. The officer issued him a summons for trespassing.

Saturday, March 30

10:45 a.m. An officer observed a man known to be trespassed from Safeway, 1580 E. Main St., sitting at a table outside the store. The man was cited for trespassing. When the officer was giving the man his copy of the form, the man crumpled the summons and threw it on the ground in front of the officer. The officer picked it up, explained the additional charge of littering and amended both it and his copy to include the new charge and returned it to the man, who then left the property without further incident.

Sunday, March 31

8:07 p.m. An officer took a report from a woman for domestic violence and harassment in the 700 block of Birch Drive. The officer requested a warrant for an arrest based on evidence provided from threatening text messages the woman received.

Monday, April 1

12:12 a.m. An officer arrested a woman on suspicion of violating a permanent trespass order at Prairie Mesa Estates, 650 E. Second St. The woman was also charged with violating a protection order that states she shall not possess or consume alcohol.

10:47 a.m. A man at the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St., was arrested on a warrant and placed into the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

3:38 p.m. An officer investigated a report made by a Family Dollar employee regarding an alleged shoplifting incident involving a man and a woman who were witnessed taking items from the store. The couple matching the suspects’ description were seen walking near Cedar Terrace Apartments, 417 S. Cedar St. The officer confirmed they were the couple, and the man admitted taking items without paying for them. The officer issued both permanent trespass notices, and the man was arrested on a warrant.

6:32 p.m. A man was arrested on suspicion of disturbing the peace near Kemper Elementary School, 620 E. Montezuma Ave. Between 4:24 p.m. and 5:17 p.m., the man was reported to Cortez Police dispatch from City Market, the Best Western hotel, and a resident. The man was issued a 24-hour trespass from City Market, a permanent trespass notice from The Best Western hotel, and was witnessed walking in the roadway stopping traffic and attempting to start an altercation with another male near Kemper Elementary School, 620 E. Montezuma Ave. Because the man had already been warned, he was arrested on suspicion of disturbing the peace.

Tuesday, April 2

12:28 a.m. A man was arrested on two warrants at the Cortez Apartments, 620 E. Empire St.

12:13 p.m. An officer served two warrants to a woman in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St. One warrant was out of La Plata County; the other was out of Montezuma County.

Wednesday, April 3

12:28 a.m. An officer took a report for a cold assault from a man in the 400 block of W. Seventh Street. The officer requested an arrest warrant for the suspect on the basis of harassment.

1:04 p.m. A woman was arrested at 1300 Jackson St. on a felony identity theft warrant.

1:20 p.m. An officer took a report for a stolen chain saw at the Colorado West Trailer Park, 1410 N. Mildred Road.

10:45 p.m. An officer arrested a man who passed out in front of the north entrance of City Market, 508 E. Main St.
