Thursday, March 21

2:17 p.m. A woman was issued a permanent no-trespass order at Hunans, 2561 E. Main St. An owner of the business was not charged for stopping the woman from leaving and holding her against her will because she locked the door, and no charges were filed against the customer for shoving the female owner of the business because she paid her bill in full. There was a misunderstanding that the diner had not paid her bill.

3:33 p.m. A man was arrested on a warrant after being spotted outside the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St.

6:50 p.m. An officer took a report for an assault from a man in the 800 block of E. Main St.

7:29 p.m. An officer took a report for an assault on an employee who checks receipts of customers leaving Walmart, 1835 E. Main St.

Friday, March 22

8:46 p.m. An officer took a report for a permanent no-trespass violation at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. The officer reported his request of a warrant for the man’s arrest, and a no-trespass order for the man’s significant other.

Saturday, March 23

12 a.m. An underage man was arrested and cited with a person under 21 drove a vehicle with BAC greater than .025, reckless driving, illegal consumption by an underage person, possessing open container in motor vehicle, and failing to present proof of insurance. The officer witnessed the vehicle the man was driving attempt to complete a 360-degree turn at the intersection of Main and Edith streets, nearly striking another vehicle that the man claimed was chasing him all night through the city. A passenger of the man was also charged with underage consumption of alcohol.

8:49 a.m. A man was arrested on a warrant at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St.

4:04 p.m. An officer took a report for a shoplifting attempt at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St.

9:25 p.m. Officers issued two men summons after noticing the vehicle they were in that had tin foils strewed about the vehicle in plain sight at Burger King, 520 W. Main St. One man was charged with unlawful possession of less than 1 gram of fentanyl and possession of drug paraphernalia. The other man was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument for two counterfeit $100 bills.

Sunday, March 24

2:59 a.m. A man was arrested on suspicion of DUID, failing to present proof of insurance, failing to drive in a single lane, and failing to display lamps when required at the corner of Empire and Washington streets.

12:27 p.m. A woman was cited for theft less than $300 and possession of paraphernalia and was issued a permanently no-trespass notice from Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. and Big R, where she was found from the vehicles description from surveillance footage. A man she was with was also issued a permanent no-trespass notice from Big R.

6:38 p.m. A man was arrested at the Econo Lodge, 2020 E. Main St., on suspicion of a two protection-order violations. One prohibits the use or possession of alcohol and contact while the suspect is in jail. The call was made after a witness reported seeing a naked woman being dragged into a room by her ankles, and surveillance footage confirmed the report.

Monday, March 25

8:40 a.m. An officer observed a man who was banned from City Market, 508 E. Main St., walking toward the entrance of the store. The man was cited for trespassing.

11:59 p.m. An officer took a report for a stolen registration, registration plate sticker and insurance from a woman’s vehicle in the 600 block of N. Ash St.

1:16 p.m. An officer served a warrant to a man in the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

6:04 p.m. Two men were arrested at McDonald’s, 1322 E. Main St. One man was arrested for violating an alcohol protection order and possessing an open container. The man’s passenger was arrested on a warrant. The two were reportedly witnessed drinking Coors Light beer in the drive-thru line.

9:44 p.m. A man was cited for trespassing at City Market, 508 E. Main St.

Tuesday, March 26

12:41 a.m. A man was arrested on suspicion of violating a protection order that states he shall not possess or consume alcohol at the Colorado West Trailer Park, 1410 N. Mildred Road.

10:13 a.m. A man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary for breaking into Community Connections, 325 S. Pine St.

10:37 a.m. A woman in a leg brace was arrested at Maverick Country Store, 455 N. State St., for suspicion of theft, a protection order violation that states she shall not possess or consume alcohol, and obstruction of a peace officer. The woman was witnessed on surveillance video footage taking two Buzz Balls and drinking in the bathroom.

2:22 p.m. A woman was cited for violating a no-trespass order by sitting outside in the grass on the north side of the property at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St.

3:05 p.m. A woman was arrested on a warrant in the 800 block of S. Oak St.

4:43 p.m. An officer took a report at Slavens True Value Hardware, 237 W. Main St., for stolen power tools that were reportedly seen on the Facebook group Cortez Swap and Sell.

10:31 p.m. A man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or both, driving on a denied license, failing to drive in a single lane, careless driving causing bodily injury, criminal protection order violation, reckless driving, open container in vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance at Dolores State Bank, 744 E. Main St.

8:24 p.m. A man was arrested on two warrants after reporting being assaulted in the parking lot of City Market, 508 E. Main St. A witness to the alleged assault stated that the man and a group of six or seven people were asked to move out of the way of an SUV in the parking lot, to which the group responded by surrounding the vehicle in an attempt to intimidate the driver. The driver stepped out of his vehicle, pushed the man claiming to have been assaulted to the ground and drove off while being chased by the group.

Wednesday, March 27

12:28 a.m. A man who was just released from jail was witnessed on a Ring camera stealing a rug from a porch. The man was cited for theft and second-degree criminal trespass in the 300 block of S. Broadway.

8:35 a.m. An officer took a report for a vehicle break-in where a custom knife with a pine cone on the handle and a Tik Tok knock-off dashcam were stolen in the 500 block of E. Coronado Ave.

10:23 a.m. A man was arrested for violating an alcohol and controlled substances protection order at Liquid Assets Liquor Store, 718 E. Main St., after a report that reckless driver with the license plate of the vehicle he was driving was made to the Cortez Police Department dispatch.

8:59 p.m. An officer took a report for vagrants who were trespassing and sleeping in an inoperable vehicle at America’s Auto Care, 244 E. Main St. Both a man and woman were issued nonexpiring trespass orders. The officer cited the man for returning and entering the vehicle after being given a trespass notice three hours before. The man claimed to have nowhere else to stay. The officer recommended he go to the Bridge Emergency Shelter, but said he could no longer continue to enter the property or vehicle on the property.
