Thursday, May 25

7:53 a.m. A man turned himself over to the custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., for a warrant.

1:22 p.m. A woman at Maverik Country Store, 445 North State St., threatened multiple people with a drawn knife and took a newspaper, carryout boxes and firewood. The woman was arrested on suspicion of menacing, aggravated robbery and violating a protection order with controlled substances restrictions. During the arrest, the woman threatened officers with the knife and kicked one officer in the shin. Cannabis and pills were found on the woman.

4:16 p.m. A man sleeping at Veteran’s Park, 830 E. Main St., was attacked by three people, two men and one woman. The people hit the man with a baton and took the man’s money. The people were arrested on suspicion of robbery. The woman was also arrested on suspicion of violating a protection order and obstruction. One of the men who attacked was also arrested on suspicion of a protection order violation.

5 p.m. A man walking his dog passed by his vehicle at Cortez Auto Repair, 690 S. Broadway, where his vehicle was being repaired and noticed his grill guard was gone. The grill guard is valued at $1,300.

7:53 p.m. A woman walking her dog in the 200 block of South Beech Street was approached by a puppy and when she pet the dog, the dog bit her finger. The dog ran away and the woman could not tell if there was an owner.

10:45 p.m. A woman at Happy Valley Trailer Park, 203 E. Seventh St., was drinking and threw a cellphone at a child. The woman was arrested on suspicion of violating a protection order.

Friday, May 26

12:18 a.m. A man being chased by a Colorado State trooper in the 900 block of East Main Street fell and tried to push the trooper away. The trooper used his Taser on the man and a Cortez Police officer handcuffed the man. The man was arrested by the trooper.

8:35 a.m. A woman noticed someone had knocked over the mailbox and torn down the gutters on her business at 19 S. Broadway. The woman last saw the mailbox an gutters intact the day before around 5:30 p.m.

8:46 a.m. The general manager at Holiday Inn Express, 2121 E. Main St., noticed that the plow truck was missing. Two men were seen in the 9400 block of Road 30.1 the night before around 11:45 p.m. taking the plow off a truck that matched the description. The men were also seen spray painting the truck.

9:40 a.m. An officer returned a key to the Post Office, 25 S. Beech St., that belonged to a package locker. The officer had found the key the day before in the possession of a man and woman suspected of robbery. The locker the key came from was filled with the man and woman's personal items. The officer served the man and woman with summons on suspicion of theft and criminal trespass.

7:56 p.m. A woman driving in the 1300 block of East Main Street was pulled over in the lower 100 block of North Mildred Road for driving 56 mph in a 35 mph zone. The woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, speeding and failure to provide insurance.

9:12 p.m. A man at Veteran’s Park, 830 E. Main St., drinking alcohol was arrested on a failure to appear warrant and on suspicion of underage drinking and violating a protection order.

Saturday, May 27

6:04 a.m. A man in the 1700 block of East Downey Avenue woke up to his home filled with smoke. The dishwasher had caught on fire and the man put it out with a bowl of water. The flames had destroyed the dishwasher, microwave and cabinets above the washer. The fire department believes that a wiring problem in the dishwasher caused the fire.

3:25 p.m. A man and woman who took a cart full of items from Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., were found in the Safeway parking lot, 1580 E. Main St. The man and woman were arrested on warrants and issued trespass notices for Walmart. The man and woman were in a vehicle that they had stolen from their sobriety sponsor in Colorado Springs. The vehicle had plates on it that did not belong to it. The man was issued a felony hold on suspicion of aggravated vehicle theft and displaying false plates.

8:32 p.m. A man received a blocked number phone call from a man who threatened him. The man believes it was an employee of his old workplace. The man was a manager at Holiday Inn Express, 2121 E. Main St., and recently all the staff had been let go.

Sunday, May 28

12:53 a.m. A man took three rolls of duct tape and a can of WD-40 from Speedway, 2021 E. Main St. The man had baggies filled with methamphetamine, suspected heroin and a glass pipe in his backpack. The man was arrested in the lower 100 block of South Veach Street on suspicion of shoplifting and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

7:57 p.m. A man was pulled over in the Taco Bell parking lot, 1300 E. Main St., for weaving in the median. The man was arrested on suspicion of assault and DUI. The woman who was a passenger in the car stated she had got into the car to prevent the man from driving, and he pulled her hair.

Monday, May 29

2:30 a.m. A woman leaving Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, shoved the sliding door, damaging one and breaking the other. The estimate damage is $500.

6:20 a.m. A dog was reported barking all day in the 500 block of West Seventh Street. Three noise complaints had been made before for the same dog. The owner was issued a citation for maintenance of animals that disturb the peace.

8:40 a.m. A woman at Sleeping Ute Apartments, 516 S. Madison St., notice her bicycle was missing from the back of her friend’s truck. The bike is valued at $107.

9:51 p.m. Three people sitting in the parking lot of City Market, 508 E. Main St., were drinking alcohol. All three were cited with possessing open containers, and one was cited with trespassing.

1:04 p.m. A man at Veterans Park, 803 E. Montezuma Ave., was showing people a BB gun and stating he was going to shoot someone. The man was arrested at Parque de Vida, 400 N. Mildred Ave., on suspicion of violating a protection order.

5:34 p.m. An intoxicated woman who was seen in the roadway near the intersection of East Seventh Street and South Madison Street was arrested at the Sleeping Ute Apartments, 516 S. Madison St., on suspicion of violating a protection order.

9:30 p.m. A man who was incoherent and appeared to be having a medical emergency was parked in his truck in front of the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St. The man attempted to drive off when officers got the door to his truck open. An officer pulled the man from the truck and handed him over to medics.

Tuesday, May 30

9:42 a.m. A man who put a beer in his pants and left City Market, 508 E. Main St., was found at Veterans Park, 803 E. Montezuma Ave. The man was cited with shoplifting, trespass and possession of alcohol in a park.

11:17 a.m. A woman at intersection of East Driscoll Street and Wedgewood Street drove off the roadway and hit a fence. The woman offered a shot of alcohol to the person who was reporting the crash. The woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving without insurance, driving without valid registration and careless driving.

2:15 p.m. A man noticed his truck missing from his residence in the 800 block of South Broadway. A woman who lives in a shed on the property heard the truck drive off around 9:30 the night before. The man also reported that his rifle and revolver were stolen sometime in February.

Wednesday, May 31

3:02 a.m. A man shoved a clerk at Speedway, 921 E. Main St., and ripped a cooler door open to take a case of alcohol. The man was arrested at the Colorado Welcome Center, 928 E. Main St., on suspicion of robbery, harassment and criminal mischief.

8:16 a.m. A man walking in the 400 block of East Main Street was arrested on a warrant and on suspicion of possessing an open container.

6:11 p.m. A man in the parking lot of American Legion, 320 N. Harrison St., was arrested on a warrant.
