Thursday, Feb. 2

8:24 a.m., An officer was dispatched to the 200 block of West Second Street to attempt a warrant arrest. The officer saw a man sleeping in a truck on the side of the road, identified him and arrested him on the warrant.

8:19 p.m., An officer served a warrant to a man in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

8:44 p.m., An employee of City Market, 508 E. Main St., requested that two men sitting in the lobby be trespassed. One man previously had been issued an indefinite trespass order. An officer cited him with trespass and issued an indefinite trespass order to the other man.

Friday, Feb. 3

10:34 a.m., An officer responded to a call for medical assistance for an unconscious man at Veterans Park, 830 E. Main St. EMS roused the man, and the officer determined he was intoxicated. The man was arrested on suspicion of violating an order that prevents him from possessing or drinking alcohol. A bottle of alcohol was found in his pocket.

3:43 p.m., A man trespassed from City Market, 508 E. Main St., was escorted by a guard to the front of the store while the man ate chocolate-covered almonds he had not paid for. He also had several items in a cart and a jar of honey in his pocket worth a total of $24.16. He was arrested on suspicion of violating a protection order, third-degree criminal trespass and concealment of goods.

5:15 p.m., A man trespassed from City Market, 508 E. Main St., refused to leave the store. A store employee told the officer she wanted two other people to leave as well. A man yelled at a person lying face down in the parking lot and started yelling at the employee but left at the officer’s request. The officer requested medical assistance for the person on the ground. The first man was cited for trespassing and taken to a shelter.

10:16 p.m., Several bags of clothing near East Empire Street and Kansas Street were collected by an officer, who then searched for the owner. A woman nearby ran from the officer into an alley near 50 E. Empire St., then stopped and confirmed the clothes were hers. The clothing and the woman had been thrown out of a residence. She was arrested on a failure to comply warrant.

Saturday, Feb. 4

7:54 a.m., An officer investigated a smashed mailbox in the 900 block of North Silgo Street. A witness reported seeing two children driving a utility vehicle on the street grab something off the street and leave about 1:30 a.m. The officer believes the UTV hit the mailbox because tire tracks matching the UTV’s tires led to the mailbox.

11:26 a.m., A man in the 100 block of East Third Street noticed a security camera had been stolen during the night. The man said he bought the camera after two bicycles were stolen from his yard. The camera’s estimated value is $70.

9:56 p.m., A woman trespassed from Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., was found lying on the floor in a bathroom stall and was cited for trespassing.

10:33 p.m., A man was pulled over in the 300 block of South Ash Street for expired plates and a broken taillight. The man had a suspended license that he believed was reinstated. The man was arrested on a warrant and cited for driving under financial responsibility suspension, displaying expired plates and driving a defective vehicle.

11:10 p.m., A man’s work truck that was parked at his house in the 700 block of Canyon Drive was hit when his children’s friend backed a Suburban into it. The man asked that no citation to be issued because they reported the crash.

Saturday, Feb. 5

9:45 a.m. A woman in the 500 block of South Madison Street noticed her car had been rummaged through. The car’s rear doors had issues locking and the woman believes that those doors were used for entry. A wallet containing her Social Security card, driver’s license and debit cards were reported missing.

9:46 a.m., An officer driving east on East Empire Street swerved to avoid hitting a driver turning west onto East Empire Street from North Ash Street. Both the officer and the man turned around, and the officer said the man swerved as he passed him in an apparent to hit the officer. The man turned south onto Washington Street, slowed down and allowed the officer to catch up. The officer activated overhead lights, and the man allegedly accelerated and turned east onto Coronado Avenue, then south on Madison Street, and stopped. The man failed to performed voluntary roadside maneuvers satisfactorily, stated he had intoxicated two beers and was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He also was cited for careless driving and violating two orders that restrict him from possessing or consuming alcohol. The officer said the man fell and stated the officer tried to injure him.

1:25 p.m., A man trespassed from Front Row Seat, 610 E. Main St., was in the parking lot drinking with another man. He was cited for trespass, and the other man was given a trespass notice and sent to the hospital because of intoxication.

2:01 p.m., An employee at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., reported that a man trespassed from the store had been there earlier that day. The officer was told the man stole a breast pump on Jan. 31. The man was arrested later at City Market, 508 E Main St. and cited with second-degree burglary and third-degree criminal trespass. While waiting to be taken into custody by jail staff, the man stated he stole the pump because he and his girlfriend had a baby about two weeks before.

4:42 p.m., A woman trespassed from Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., was escorted by employees from the restrooms to the front of the store, where an officer cited her for trespassing.

5:11 p.m., A man in the 400 block of East Main Street was arrested on a warrant. While being handcuffed, he allegedly struck an officer in the chest. Bottles of open and unopened alcohol were found on the man. Officers used a WRAP restraint to move the man from the patrol vehicle to the hospital to be medically cleared. He was cited with resisting arrest and violating an order restricting him from possessing or consuming alcohol.

Sunday, Feb. 6

12:44 p.m., An officer served three warrants to man in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

2:42 p.m. The woman who had been cited with trespassing the day before at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., was accused of stealing food. During questioning, she stated she had not eaten anything but the stolen food and that she had an arrest warrant. Footage showed the woman go to the food, walk out with it, eat half and then sleep. She was arrested on a warrant and cited with trespassing and shoplifting.

Monday, Feb. 7

9:44 p.m., A man attempting to get a driver’s license at Cortez Driver Licensing, 2210 E. Main St., left after failing to bring the required information. He hit the glass with his hand on the way out, cracking the glass. An officer found him near his home and cited him with misdemeanor criminal mischief after getting a repair quote for $1,012.79.

10:27 a.m., A woman at the Montezuma County Combined Courts, 730 E. Driscoll St., was arrested on a warrant.

10:52 a.m. An employee at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., allegedly told a co-worker he would shoot everyone but her the next day. The co-worker told a manager about the incident. Another co-worker said the man said he would also spare him. During questioning, the female co-worker told the officer she believed the man was not joking, and the male co-worker said he believed the man was joking. Officers got an arrest warrant for misdemeanor menacing, a search warrant and a temporary extreme risk protection order. About 5:20 p.m. the man was arrested at the Bridge Emergency Shelter, 735 N. Park St. No firearms were found. The man denied that he had made a remark about shooting people. The search warrant was not conducted because it was for a residence where the man no longer lived.

11:12 a.m., A man at his mother’s residence in the Sleeping Ute Apartments, 516 S. Madison St., got into a shoving match with her grandson. The mother and her grandson asked no charges be pursued. The man was arrested on a warrant.

9:34 p.m., A man turned himself in at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., on a failure to appear warrant.

Tuesday, Feb. 8

9:05 a.m. A motor home parked in the lower 100 block of North Roger Avenue was surrounded by trash the day after a code enforcement officer told a man to clean it up. The man was cited with littering.

10:23 p.m., A man was pulled over for running over a curb while turning east onto East Main Street from South Harrison Street. The man failed to perform voluntary roadside maneuvers satisfactorily and was arrested and cited with careless driving, drunken driving and failing to provide proof of insurance. The officer seized the man’s license after he provided a breath sample of 0.118g/210L.
