8:58 a.m.: Police responded to a report of damaged property in the 30 block of North Washington Street. A man who was crushing trash in a dumpster claimed he had accidentally hit a pickup truck with his construction equipment, causing a dent. The pickup was reportedly parked against a fence with a “No Parking” sign. No charges were filed.
Thursday, May 24
11:26 a.m.: A man was arrested in City Park, 802 E. Main St., on suspicion of disturbing the peace after multiple witnesses reported he had tried to fight with them. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before going to jail, due to severe intoxication.
11:43 a.m.: A man was arrested outside the Montezuma County Annex, 107 N. Chestnut St., on suspicion of violating a protection order after a welfare check on him. He was medically cleared due to intoxication.
5:13 p.m.: Police responded to a report of theft in the 100 block of South Harrison Street. A woman reported someone claiming to be from TDS Telecom had come to her house without an appointment and had taken several wires from her modem, valued at $45 total. The case remains under investigation.
Friday, May 25
10:46 a.m.: Police responded to a report of burglary at the old Montezuma-Cortez High School, 206 W. Seventh St. A district employee reported someone had broken into the building by prying up a security bar across a door and had taken a 25-foot section of power cord and two cameras. The case remains under investigation.
3:09 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 1000 block of East Main Street on suspicion of DUI after police responded to a report he had almost caused a head-on collision. He was medically cleared due to severe intoxication.
Saturday, May 26
12:09 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 1600 block of East Empire Street on suspicion of trespassing and disturbing the peace after police responded to a report that he was pounding on the door of a residence and saying he was Jesus. When police contacted him, he reportedly said he wanted to beat up the person inside the house, and forced him to the ground to handcuff him. He was medically cleared due to intoxication, and reportedly threatened the arresting officers throughout the trip to the hospital.
12:29 a.m.: A man was cited in the 1200 block of North Dolores Road on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se, driving under restraint and driving with a defective headlight.
1:51 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 700 block of North Edith Street on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se, speeding and failing to drive in a single lane.
2:52 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of South Madison Street on suspicion of disturbing the peace after reportedly banging on an apartment door. When police contacted him, he reportedly tried to enter another apartment, saying it was his, but the door was locked. After he was arrested, he reportedly kicked the door of the patrol car throughout his transportation to the hospital, where he was treated for intoxication and a cut on his head.
11:44 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 200 block of West Seventh Street on a warrant for failure to appear and on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se, driving under restraint, disregarding a stop sign and failing to signal as required. He was medically cleared due to intoxication.
12:41 p.m.: A man was arrested at Best Western Motel, 80 S. Harrison St., on suspicion of domestic violence and harassment after he reported his wife had thrown a coffee cup at him and was holding a knife. His wife said he pulled a knife on her during an argument. The man was medically cleared due to intoxication, and a cut. His claim that he had broken ribs, was determined to be false.
12:59 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of South Broadway on suspicion of DUI after an Arby’s employee reported he and two other people had left in a vehicle after causing a disturbance in the store. A Montezuma County Sheriff’s deputy pulled over the vehicle and turned the investigation over to the police. While the car was being towed, the deputy reportedly found a backpack with two bags of marijuana and 11 containers of hash oil. He arrested the man’s male passenger on a warrant, and let the female passenger go.
