Saturday, April 29

1:12 a.m.: A man was issued a summons in the 10 block of South Ash Street on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se and failure to signal as required.

1:25 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 900 block of Garrison Drive on a warrant for failure to comply and on suspicion of obstruction after police responded to a report of a disturbance at her residence the day before. The woman wouldn’t let responding officers into her house or talk to them, and a pit bull was guarding the entrance to the room where she was hiding. The next day two officers returned and used the noise of their tasers to keep the dog away until they found the woman hiding in a cabinet. Her wife told police she had made suicidal statements, and she said she was having a heart attack at the time of the arrest, so she was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital for treatment before going to the jail.

2:28 p.m.: A man was arrested at City Market, 508 E. Main St., on suspicion of trespassing.

5:40 p.m.: Police responded to a report of a downed light pole in the 500 block of North Broadway. Responding officers said there was no sign of foul play and suggested the strong winds that day may have blown down the pole.

5:42 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 100 block of South Madison Street on suspicion of violating a protection order and underage consumption of alcohol.

6:42 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 400 block of North Mildred Road on a warrant for failure to appear.

7:46 p.m.: A man was arrested at Wal-Mart, 1835 E. Main St., on suspicion of shoplifting. Store employees claimed he had stolen a DVD and six video games, valued at $118.66 total. When the man saw police following him, he reportedly started running and threw a bag into the field near the store. The stolen items were later found in that field, after police had caught up with the suspect.

9:38 p.m.: Police responded to a report of a disturbance in the 20 block of West Seventh Street, where a man had reportedly been banging on the doors and windows of a residence. When officers contacted the man, he said he was angry at the male resident of the house for sexually assaulting his wife. No other information on the incident or the alleged sexual assault was provided.

9:45 p.m.: A man was arrested at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, on a warrant for failure to appear after police responded to a request to transport him to Crossroads Detox Center in Durango. After the responding officers learned he had a warrant, they had him medically cleared at the hospital and transported him to the jail instead.

Sunday, April 30

1:15 a.m.: A man was arrested outside Angel’s End Zone, 309 N. Broadway, on suspicion of third-degree assault, domestic violence and disorderly conduct after witnesses said he grabbed his girlfriend by the neck, pushed her and punched her in the face three times. The woman did not cooperate with police and said she did not want to press charges.

5:23 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 10 block of West Seventh Street on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se, weaving and an open container violation. After the arrest, the man reportedly said he wished he had stayed home with his dog that night, because “Women get me into trouble, my dog doesn’t.”

11:58 a.m.: A man was issued a summons in Denny Lake Park, 2825 E. Main St., on suspicion of possessing alcohol in the park.

2:40 p.m.: A man was arrested at City Market, 508 E. Main St., on suspicion of shoplifting. Employees said he had tried to leave the store without paying for a candle and some wine coolers, valued at $6.18 total. They also said he had been involved with previous disturbances at the store, including one in which he raised his cane and shouted that “all women should be beat” after an employee refused to give him a cigarette.

Monday, May 1

5:36 a.m.: A man turned himself in at the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., and was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear.

2:51 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 10 block of North Mildred Road on a warrant for failure to appear.

Tuesday, May 2

1:42 a.m.: Police responded to a report of theft at Jackson Hewitt Tax Service inside Wal-Mart, 1835 E. Main St. A woman said she believed a former employee had stolen $1,017 from the company, which was the amount of profit cash she was supposed to send to the main office in March. The reporting party said the money was never received. The case remains under investigation.

2:05 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 300 block of West Fifth Street on suspicion of DUI, failure to provide proof of insurance and failure to signal as required.

11:22 a.m.: A man was issued a summons at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St. on suspicion of trespassing.

2:58 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 700 block of Jordan Place on a warrant for failure to appear.

9:57 p.m.: A woman was issued a summons in City Park, 802 E. Main St., on suspicion of possessing alcohol in the park.

10:15 p.m.: A man was arrested at Aneth Lodge, 645 E. Main St., on suspicion of trespassing. The responding officer said it was the third time he had been warned about trespassing on the property that day.
