Wednesday, July 26

9:13 a.m.: Police responded to a report of criminal mischief at Manaugh Elementary School, 300 E. Fourth St. A maintenance worker reported two windows had been broken, causing $700 in damage. The case remains under investigation.

5:13 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Court, 601 N. Mildred Road, on a warrant for failure to comply on a local misdemeanor charge.

Thursday, July 27

10:08 a.m.: Police responded to a report of theft from a vehicle in the 400 block of South Linden Street. A man claimed his wife’s purse had gone missing after she left it in her unlocked car for about 10 minutes. The purse reportedly contained several bottles of hand lotion and other hygiene items, a planner with all the woman’s passwords in it and a wallet with several credit cards, a debit card and the woman’s driver’s license. The case remains under investigation.

10:45 a.m.: Police responded to a report of found property in the 2200 block of La Plata Street. A woman claimed someone had left a red bicycle in the northwest corner of her property and she didn’t know who it belonged to. Officers took the bike to the police station for safekeeping.

12:52 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of South Madison Street on suspicion of domestic violence, violation of bond conditions, a protection order violation and criminal mischief after a woman who had a protection order against him claimed he was trying to get into the back window of her apartment. Officers reportedly found the suspect under a couch in a bedroom. The screen on the window where the woman said he was trying to get in had been damaged.

6:40 p.m.: Police responded to a report of found property in the 400 block of South Market Street. A woman claimed she had found a black and white bicycle in the alley behind her residence. Responding officers took the bike to the police station for safekeeping.

8 p.m.: A woman was arrested behind Denny’s, 2059 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a charge of disturbing the peace.

10:03 p.m.: A man and a woman were issued summonses on suspicion of shoplifting at Safeway, 1580 E. Main St. Store employees claimed they had stolen two baskets of groceries, valued at $109.22 total.

Friday, July 28

2:18 p.m.: A woman was arrested at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., on suspicion of theft and shoplifting. Store employees claimed she had taken a number of items from the shelves and tried to return them for cash at the customer service desk. Police also found two bras and two perfume sprays from Walmart in her purse, and she reportedly admitted she had not paid for them.

11:25 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of East Arbecam Avenue on suspicion of possessing a firearm as a previous offender, prohibited use of weapons and menacing after a woman reported he was trespassing on her property and had threatened to shoot her in the face. Responding police officers found an unloaded handgun in his pocket. The man was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being taken to jail, due to severe intoxication.

Saturday, July 29

1:26 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 900 block of Brookside Drive on suspicion of a protection order violation.

9:09 a.m.: Police responded to a report of criminal mischief at Sears, 1 E. Main St. The business owner reported someone had sprayed graffiti in the shape of a face on the back of the building, causing about $500 in damage. The case is under investigation.

1:43 p.m.: A man was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. Store employees claimed he had taken an iced coffee, an apple pie and a sandwich, valued at $8.26 total, without paying.

2:24 p.m.: A man was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. Store employees claimed he had stolen a flashlight valued at $29.97 after his credit card was declined at the cash register. The man reportedly told police that a friend of his had promised to trade him $50 worth of meth in exchange for the flashlight.

5:09 p.m.: A man was arrested outside City Market, 508 E. Main St., on three warrants for failure to appear and on suspicion of violating a protection order and violating bail bond conditions. The man was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

5:41 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 200 block of Main Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

7:31 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 600 block of South Washington Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.

Sunday, July 30

10:43 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 10 block of South Linden Street on two warrants for failure to appear on local felony charges.

2:11 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of South Beech Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge after a woman said she believed he had been repeatedly spitting on her vehicle ever since an incident when she asked him to keep his dog on a leash.

2:51 p.m.: A woman was arrested outside the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., on suspicion of disturbing the peace and underage consumption of alcohol after witnesses reported she had been pounding on the windows of cars in the area. She reportedly yelled at a family that was trying to have a picnic in the park throughout her arrest and tried to run away from police at one point.

3:15 p.m.: A woman was arrested outside City Market, 508 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge. She was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.
