9:45 a.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a Montezuma County warrant and a La Plata County warrant, both for failure to appear on misdemeanor charges.

1:13 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 600 block of South Washington Street on suspicion of disturbing the peace after another woman reported she was standing outside her house and yelling threats. The suspect reportedly refused to walk to the patrol car during her arrest, leading responding officers to shove her inside the vehicle. She reportedly threatened to find out where the arresting officer lived and kill his family. She was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital before being taken to jail, due to severe intoxication, and she was reportedly hostile to hospital staff throughout treatment.

2:20 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 900 block of Memorial Drive on suspicion of violating a protection order after police responded to a report of a verbal disturbance between him and the woman who had the protection order against him. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

4:14 p.m.: Police responded to a report of theft at Cortez Diesel, 17 S. Broadway. A man claimed he had parked a tractor trailer dolly, valued at $3,500, in the parking lot on Nov. 10, and that it was gone when he went to pick it up on Nov. 14. When police spoke with employees at Cortez Diesel, they claimed they had never noticed the dolly was missing. The case remains under investigation.

5:01 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 500 block of W. Sixth St. on two warrants for failure to appear on local felony charges after a woman reported he was in the house. The man was reportedly hiding under a foam mattress topper in a crawl space when police found him.

6:10 p.m.: Police responded to a report of theft at the Cortez Recreation Center, 425 N. Roger Smith Ave. A man claimed he had put his cell phone, valued at $500, in a locker along with other belongings while he was swimming in the pool, and when he returned, his belongings were on the floor and his phone was missing. The case remains under investigation.

9:18 p.m.: A man was arrested at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, on two municipal warrants for failure to appear on misdemeanor charges after police responded to a request for a courtesy ride to the Bridge Emergency Shelter.

Thursday, Dec. 7

2:54 a.m.: A woman was arrested at National 9 Inn, 301 W. Main St., on a municipal warrant for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge after police responded to a noise complaint about her motel room.

1:57 p.m.: A man was issued a summons for trespassing at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., after police responded to a report that he was intoxicated and had passed out in a library chair.

Friday, Dec. 8

12:10 a.m.: A woman was arrested at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.

10:56 a.m.: Two men were issued summonses on suspicion of third-degree assault outside the Colorado Welcome Center, 802 E. Main St., after another man claimed they had attacked him, causing injuries to his face. One of the men was also issued a summons for violating a protection order. All three men were transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital for medical treatment, as all three were severely intoxicated. The alleged victim also reportedly had a protection order prohibiting him from consuming alcohol, but police did not pursue charges due to his injuries. They also reportedly decided not to arrest the two suspects because emergency room staff said it would be a long wait for their medical clearance, and the police department was dealing with a high call load and short staffing.

12:45 p.m.: A man was arrested at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., on suspicion of violating a protection order. He reportedly tried to headbutt a responding officer during the arrest, leading the officer to push his head away. The man was reportedly severely intoxicated, but he was not medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to the emergency room’s extended wait times.

7:59 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 300 block of South Broadway on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge.

Saturday, Dec. 9

11:20 a.m.: Police responded to a report of criminal mischief at Taste of India, 1013 E. Main St. The restaurant owner reported someone had thrown a rock through a window sometime between 10:10 p.m. the previous day and 10:50 a.m., causing about $500 in damage. Police also found some large pieces of firewood both outside the window and inside the restaurant. The case remains under investigation.

1:56 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 20 block of North Park Street on suspicion of violating a protection order after police separated him from a group of men who appeared to be getting ready to fight. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

3:20 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 100 block of North Washington Street on suspicion of violating a protection order after police responded to a report that he and his brother were riding bicycles while intoxicated. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication, and his bike was confiscated due to responding officers’ suspicions it may have been stolen. The man’s brother was given a verbal warning not to ride his bike anymore while intoxicated.

4:28 p.m.: A man was arrested at Cozy Inn, 440 S. Broadway, on suspicion of trespassing. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital because of severe intoxication.

7:18 p.m.: Police responded to a report of criminal mischief in the 700 block of Aspen Drive. A woman reported a truck had crashed into her mailbox, causing about $45 in damage, and had left the scene. The case remains under investigation.

10:09 p.m.: A man was arrested outside Hong Kong Restaurant, 332 W. Main St., on suspicion of criminal mischief and two protection order violations after a restaurant employee claimed he had damaged the mirror on her car. The man had reportedly come into the restaurant asking for food and saying he was hungry, but when the employee offered him some rice, he had thrown it away and left. The employee claimed he had then gone up to her car and started jerking the mirror around. The man was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication and an apparently broken orbital bone in his right eye, which he said was the result of an earlier fight.

Sunday, Dec. 10

1:01 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 200 block of South Madison Street on suspicion of disturbing the peace after police responded to a report that his brother was threatening him. After responding officers asked the brother to leave, the other man reportedly began yelling threats at his other brother, who was in the same building, and approaching him with fists raised, leading officers to separate them.

12:21 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 40 block of North Henry Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge after he called police to ask for a vehicle identification number inspection.

Monday, Dec. 11

1:32 p.m.: Police responded to a report of a missing firearm in the 10 block of West 13th Street. A man reported his semi-automatic handgun, valued at $600, had gone missing sometime during the past month. He reportedly said he keeps the gun on the top shelf of a closet in his home, and he was not aware of any break-ins. The case remains under investigation.

Tuesday, Dec. 12

7:53 p.m.: Police responded to a report of shoplifting at Big R, 1319 E. Main St. Store employees claimed three men had stolen a pair of boots, some shirts and a drill set, valued between $500 and $800 total. The case remains under investigation.
