Person reportedly hit by vehicle on Colorado 184

Injuries include possible broken leg
A man was hit by a vehicle on Colorado Highway 184 north of Mancos about 9 a.m. He reportedly suffered a possible broken leg, and was transported by ambulance to Southwest Memorial Hospital. The southbound lane was closed for about 20 minutes.

A man was struck by a vehicle on Colorado Highway 184 north of Mancos about 9 a.m., according to Montezuma County dispatch.

An “off-duty” EMT was on scene and reported a possible leg fracture to law enforcement by telephone, according to a dispatcher.

But according to the Colorado State Patrol, a woman had dropped off her boyfriend at work and began to drive away when he realized he forgot his phone in her vehicle.

“He attempted to run after her vehicle, slipped, and was accidentally run over,” reports Corp. James Proctor, of the Colorado State Patrol.

An initial report by dispatch was that a witness reported it as a possible domestic dispute, but that was not the case, he said.

“It was a freak accident,” Proctor said.

The southbound lane toward Mancos was closed for about 20 minutes after the accident, said Montezuma County Sheriff’s deputy Ryan Hancock, who was at the scene.

The Colorado State Patrol took over the investigation, Hancock said.
