Pacific storm brings fresh snowfall to Cortez area

About an inch of snow fell overnight in the Cortez area on Wednesday, adding to the snow around this antique wagon on County Road P.

The National Weather Service is predicting snow showers to end Wednesday morning and then redevelop in the afternoon as a series of Pacific storms tracks east across the Rockies. Expect light to moderate amounts of snowfall over the mountains and valleys through Wednesday.

About an inch of snow fell overnight in the Cortez area. The high temperature Wednesdayis expected to reach 35 degrees, with an overnight low of about 16 degrees.

Through Friday, sunny and partly sunny skies are expected, with highs about 36 degrees and overnight lows between 14 and 19 degrees.

The weather service forecasts a warmer weekend for Montezuma County, with highs near 40 degrees on Saturday and Sunday, lows between 18 and 23, and a slight chance of snow.

The Denver Broncos can expect winds of under 5 mph Sunday and a high near 50 degrees for its 1:05 p.m. kickoff in its conference championship game against the New England Patriots in Denver.
