This weekend marks one year of operation for Outlier Cellars, and the Mancos cidery is gearing up for a Friday night birthday bash.

The cidery at 141 S. Main St. opened in February 2018. And with a year under its belt, the business has grown into a community hub, with live music and celebrated ciders, said the owners.

“I feel like we’ve generated a really cool place for people to gather and come together,” said Saumel Perry, one of Outlier’s founders. “I’ve met a lot of really interesting folks that I didn’t even know lived in Mancos because there was nowhere really for us to connect previously, and now it feels like people are coming out of the woodwork.”

Outlier Cellars was co-founded by Perry and Neal Wight last year. They specialize in making and selling Fenceline Cider, a dry cider made from local heritage apples.

“We’ve been happily surprised at how supportive people have been, especially the liquor stores and restaurants to carry artisan cider made from local fruit,” Wight said of the past year.

Friday’s event will involve a raffle and live music by the Crags, performing “southwest psych-a-desert rock,” according to the event organizers. Attendees can also eat free unlimited pizza with the purchase of cider, and are invited to try out a new bourbon barrel-aged cider.

The party will happen from 5-10 p.m.
