There will be no trash pickup on Thanksgiving Day in Cortez, because of high winds that led to the early closure of the Montezuma County Landfill.

The landfill closed early Wednesday and was closed Thursday, meaning the city’s refuse crew got Thanksgiving Day off.

Weather permitting, Friday’s trash route is expected to remain the same, while Thursday’s trash will be picked up on Saturday.

Recycling will be picked up the following week. The crew will clear the drop-off center and run their usual commercial route on Friday.

City offices will be closed both Thursday and Friday this week.
