Montezuma County Commissioners decide our future

The Montezuma County Comprehensive Land Use Plan is being revised regarding alternate energy sources including solar farms and nuclear energy. It’s time for a decision about the future on Thursday, July 24.

A lot of people support public lands for different purposes. But you can’t mix mining with grazing, recreation, or even agriculture because mining pollutes air, land and water.

I have spoken to county commissioners and state politicians about uranium mining and increased cancer risk from radon and tailings storage. I gave them the facts, and they must prefer short term mining gain over long term community health and well-being.

That’s why we have a moratorium on solar farms and public nuclear energy meetings. What they don’t care to see makes for a grim future. So what kind of a future do you want for your children and grandchildren?

I’m proposing a Colorado green amendment instead. We need clean air, water, and healthy lands as our rights in the Colorado Constitution. Let’s let them know that we want a brighter future and see who steps up to lead us with a Colorado green amendment.
