Missing Indiana man found dead west of Silverton

No foul play suspected, sheriff says

An Indiana man who reportedly went missing around Silverton in October was found dead Friday morning in a popular recreation area in the San Juan Mountains.

San Juan County Sheriff Bruce Conrad posted to social media that Chad Strahan of Muncie, Indiana, which is just outside Indianapolis, was reported missing by his family, with his last known location being Silverton.

On Friday, a couple walking their dog in the South Mineral Creek area, just west of Silverton, found human remains later identified as Strahan. Later that day, his car was found “well beyond motor vehicle boundaries and hidden in the trees.”

Conrad said no foul play is suspected and the family has been notified.

The cause of death has not been disclosed.

“This has proven to have been an exceptionally challenging and stressful year for the whole globe,” Conrad wrote. “If you are finding it so, please reach out, there are more options than you may be finding in the moment.”

Conrad did not immediately return a call seeking comment Monday morning. Attempts to reach San Juan County Coroner Keri Metzler were not immediately successful.
