The Mancos School District is preparing to welcome staff and students for the new school year with a “renewed and deepened” focus around building a healthy community and creating engaging learning experiences for students.
New staff orientation was held Monday through Wednesday under the direction of Adyan Farrar, curriculum and instruction, and Janet Fogel, human resources director. All teachers and staff will attend professional learning and planning days from Aug. 6-11, with an emphasis on building a “culture of crew” and delivering high-quality instructional practices, the district said.
Play dates with teachers will be held next week on Wednesday and Aug. 13 at Mancos Early Learning Center with Director Tyra Hughes, and an open house will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 13. The first day of school is Aug. 17.
Mancos Elementary School, led by Principal Mary Marable, will hold welcome day conferences for students and families on Aug. 13. Classes for the elementary school will also begin on Aug. 17.
New secondary school principal Julie Porter has started her new role, bringing more than 15 years of administrative experience into Mancos Middle and High School. The district said Porter is known for developing strong relationships, a positive school culture and engaging learning environments. The first day of school for the middle school and high school is Aug. 12.
Breakfast and lunch are free for all students through Food Services, directed by Kacey Armes.
Registration for the district’s schools is still open. Parents and guardians can find enrollment information on the district website or by visiting any of the school’s offices.
