Mancos High School’s Cyril Conway Chapter of the National Honor Society held its annual induction ceremony on Monday, honoring seniors preparing to graduate and inducting 14 new members into the chapter.
The year’s accomplishments for NSH members were also celebrated. Chapter adviser Sarah Carr said those included included fundraising efforts, three blood drives, trail work in collaboration with the Mancos Trails Group, “forging new connections with community elders and service organizations,” and Once Upon a Gown, a free formal dress rental program started by senior Olivia Jukes.
This year’s NHS graduating seniors are Amelie Cover, Remy Dillon, Brooke Jabour, Jukes, Destiny Kramer, Alexis Lyons, Adam Martinez, Rosalinda Phillips, Madeline Swortwood-Green and Greta Thompson.
The 14 newly inducted members are Cuinn Archer, Tinsley Aspromonte, Vaughn Bankston, Eleanor Barnhurst, Rhett Brown, Colter Dennison, Hank Guiles, Ava Hawkins, Garrison Hostiuck-Kennedy, Michael Krupa, Laney Palmer, Levi Priestley, Andrew Simmons and Traycer White.
To be part of the honor society, students must attend a school with an NHS chapter and have a minimum GPA of 85, B, 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or higher. Students must also show a commitment to service in their school and/or community, show leadership and be “resourceful, good problem solvers and idea contributors.”
Further, the NHS shared that students must be of good character, have a “clean” disciplinary record and be cooperative, honest, reliable, courteous, respectful and more.
Once accepted and inducted, students are often required, at a minimum, to attend regular chapter meetings and participate in service projects organized by the chapter.
