Man arrested, woman injured in collision near Towaoc

Woman treated for injuries

A man was arrested and a woman was injured after two vehicles collided Tuesday morning near Towaoc.

Colorado State Patrol troopers, the Ute Mountain Ute Fire Department and other emergency personnel responded to the 100 block of U.S. Highway 160, near Woody’s Food Stores, about 10:30 a.m.

According to Trooper Josh Lewis, two vehicles had collided, causing significant damage to at least one. The female driver of one vehicle complained of pain and was transported to a hospital, while the other driver was arrested by the State Patrol on suspicion of DUI.

Cortez Fire Protection District Chief Jeff Vandevoorde said his firefighters also responded to the crash, but a firetruck and ambulance from the Ute Mountain Ute reservation were already on the scene. A Montezuma County Sheriff’s deputy performed traffic control during the investigation.

As of early Tuesday afternoon, Lewis would not release the names of the people involved in the accident or any information about what might have caused the crash.

“It’s still an open case,” he said.

He also declined to release details about the injuries caused by the crash, but he said the female driver’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. The male driver was uninjured.
