‘Make abortion safe and legal’

Over 20 years ago, the FDA approved the use of mifepristone, a very safe drug used in more than half of U.S. abortions. On Friday, a single Trump-appointed judge, Matthew Kacsmaryk, issued a preliminary injunction banning its use nationwide.

An hour later, a federal judge in Washington state made an opposite ruling and the Biden administration is appealing the Kacsmaryk’s order. You can follow all of this evolving information best by signing up for emails from NARAL, Planned Parenthood, Plan C, etc. But in the meantime, we need to get involved and prepare to fight back. Otherwise, women may be forced to carry unwanted pregnancies to term and many may even die!

If it stands, this ruling will have a profound impact on every woman of childbearing age, young girls who will soon be going through puberty, husbands, boyfriends, family and society as well. We lived through this fight to make abortion safe and legal once before. But now, we must do it all over again for the sake of others. . . women, teenagers, our daughters, nieces, grandchildren! We can’t just sit on the sidelines.

Everyone should have the right to choose the right time to have children, to care for their own health in consultation with their doctor, not to face potentially fatal health risks, not to be forced to bear an unwanted child. In the meantime, Mayday Health, a reproductive health education nonprofit provides information about continued access to abortion pills in all 50 states.
