Letter from Cortez: Watch out for potholes

The unusually harsh winter we’ve experienced this year has wreaked havoc on our streets. Cortez Public Works Crews have been out repairing reported potholes and proactively addressing trouble spots citywide.

Using the “cold mix” patching system, crews have used over 10 tons of cold mix asphalt and have been out repairing streets every day for the past several weeks. For more information on different types of patching methods, check out the City’s website at: www.cityofcortez.com and go to home/government/departments/public works/streets and click on “pothole.”

If you would like to report a pothole, call the Public Works Department at the City Service Center at 970-565-7320. (U.S. Highways 491 and 160, including North and South Broadway, are state highways, and Colorado Department of Transportation crews are responsible for maintenance on these roads.)

Public Works crews will continue patching as potholes are reported and, weather permitting, they will be out blading the gravel roads within the City in the next few weeks.

Please drive carefully and watch out for maintenance crews working on the streets.
