For The Journal
Continuing its 21-year legacy, Leadership Montezuma launched the 2015-2016 class year as 18 new people joined in the retreat at The Colorado Welcome Center in Cortez.
Leadership Montezuma has welcomed participants from different walks of life to learn about their community. Class members take one day per month (for nine months) to focus on an aspect of life in Montezuma County. This year, the agenda will include natural resources, the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, culture, nonprofits, education, health and human services, public safety, local government and economics – experienced by the people who make it happen. This program provides information resulting in individual growth and innovative involvement.
Leadership Montezuma is a subproject of Onward! A Legacy Foundation, with nonprofit 501(c)3 status. Many community businesses offer financial support.
Leadership Montezuma is actively seeking new board members. Donna Steward has been hired as program coordinator. Steward most recently the director of The Cortez Cultural Center and has a background in art and community service. Email Steward at leadershipmontezuma@gmail.com to serve or sign up for next year’s class.
