Why are the majority of people across the country outraged about ICE and Border Patrol’s behavior? We deport thousands of immigrants every year. What’s different now?
While claiming to deport only “the worst of the worst,” in reality, over 70% of the men, women and children detained by ICE and Border Patrol have no criminal record. Many have legal status, and some are American citizens. Civil rights violations abound.
Two unarmed American citizens were murdered by ICE and Border Patrol in Minneapolis. DHS denies any wrongdoing and will “conduct its own investigation.” Thirty-nine people have died at the hands of ICE since January 2025. Dozens of people from Montezuma and La Plata counties have been detained, including children. There is no oversight at the detention centers, and reports are of horrendous conditions.
The administration is building camps and hiring ICE agents as fast as it can. Families are ripped apart and whisked away every day with no due process.
Why is DHS so violent, in such a hurry, and unwilling to be honest? They’re hoping that fear will stop protesters from getting in their way and will cause millions of immigrants to self-deport. They have to hurry because the midterm elections could end their reign. They are dishonest because they are on the wrong side of the law.
What can you do? Call your legislators to stop ICE and Border Patrol from terrorizing our communities. Educate yourself and find your place to express how you feel. Love your neighbor.
