A guide to some of the week’s local spooky festivities
Thursday, Oct. 28
  • Storytime at the Cortez Public Library: As part of its weekly storytime series, the library is hosting a “Spooky Stuff” themed reading at 10:30 a.m. at 202 N. Park St.
  • Mancos Schools Halloween concert: The Mancos Bluejay bands, along with third, fourth, and fifth graders, will perform at 6:30 p.m. in the Mancos Performing Arts Center. The district suggests a $5 donation per family.
  • Cow Camp Coffee LLC goody bags: On Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m., and on Friday from 6:30 to 11 a.m., Cow Camp will hand out goody bags at 12129 U.S. Highway 491.
Friday, Oct. 29
  • Bake sale and pet costume contest: Denkai Thrift Store is awarding the two pets with the best costumes prizes. Owners can enter their pets into the contest anytime between 11 a.m. and 4:45 p.m at 725 E. Main St..
  • Halloween treats at Eclectic Spatique: The store at 23 S. Beech St. Unit B104 will be handing out goodies from 12 to 4 p.m.
  • A family-friendly Spooky Trick or Treat, starting at 4:40 p.m., at XTROV Realty, 444 East Montezuma Ave., one block north of City Market in Cortez.
Saturday, Oct. 30
  • Spooktacular Days: Halloween festivities will take place in Dolores throughout the weekend, with local businesses handing out candy.
  • Costume contest and pumpkin painting at Three Chicks Bakery: The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 105 N. Fifth St.
    • Trunk or Treat at Cortez Church of the Nazarene: From 2 to 4 p.m., visitors are encouraged to wear costumes at 514 N. Chestnut St.
    • Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat: A cake walk, games, door prizes and costume contest will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Montezuma Valley Presbyterian Church at 350 S. Washington St.
    • Piñon Project Pumpkin Fest: A 5K run, costume contest, trick-or-treating and more will take place in Montezuma Park from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
    • Halloween party at EsoTerra Ciderworks: From 3 to 6 p.m. kids can pick up candy from at the cidery at 18390 Colorado Highway145. At 6 p.m. there will be live music, and at 8p.m there will be a costume contest.
    • Hunter Jumper Spooktacular Schooling Show: The themed equestrian event will take place at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds at 30100 U.S. Route 160 beginning at 9 a.m.
    • Free and Scary Haunted House, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at XTROV Realty, 444 E. Montezuma Ave., one block north of City Market in Cortez. Come say "hello" to the Keepers of the House.
    Sunday, Oct 31
    • Dolores Town Hall trick-or-treating: From 5:30 to 8 p.m., children can stop by Dolores Town Hall for candy handed out by the Dolores Fire Protection District.
    • Dolores Fire and Rescue Food Drive: Dolores Fire personnel are accepting donations of non-perishable food for community members in need outside of Dolores Town Hall from 7 to 7:30 p.m.
    • Trunk or Treat at Loop’s Coffee House and Bistro: Treats will be handed out — for dogs, too — from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
    • Dolores Public Library party: The library is transforming into Davey Jones’ Locker for trick-or-treating between 5 and 8 p.m.
    • Halloween carnival hosted by The Lions Club : The free event will take place at the Mancos Community Center on Grand Avenue from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
    • Halloween yoga: Sukha Soma Yoga & Structural Integration is hosting a one-hour yoga and meditation session at 10 a.m. at 18078 Rd 24.25. Halloween marks the last day of the “light” half of the Celtic year, and the yoga session will celebrate this, focusing on self-reflection.
