The Journal
Andrew Gulliford, professor of history and environmental studies at Fort Lewis College, will discuss his book “Outdoors in the Southwest” at the Cortez Cultural Center on Nov. 29 at 6 p.m.
The presentation is free.
The book is a collection of essays advocating an outdoor ethic that is based on curiosity, cooperation, humility and ecological literacy.
Addressing public land policy and environmental protection, the book serves as a guidebook about the West’s changing landscape, said Rebecca Levy, director of the Cultural Center.
Gulliford’s books about environmental history include “Preserving Western History;” “Sacred Object, Sacred Places: Preserving Tribal Traditions;” and “Boomtown Blues: Colorado Oil Shale.”
His column, “Gulliford’s Travels,” is published in The Journal and Durango Herald newspapers.
