No serious injuries reported; one driver cited for careless driving

A two-vehicle crash around 4 p.m. on U.S. Highway 491 north of Cortez caused significant damage to both vehicles, but there were no injuries, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The driver of a northbound Hyundai Sante Fe was in the middle turn lane and attempted to take a left onto Road K. 7 when it collided with a southbound Chevy truck, said Trooper James Proctor.

The driver of the Hyundai was cited for careless driving, he said. No drugs or alcohol were involved, Proctor said.

The drivers of both vehicles were wearing seat belts and carried no passengers. The air bag of the Hyundai deployed. The crash occurred at mile marker 28.

Both vehicles had to be towed, and crews cleaned up debris from the crash. Southbound traffic was reduced to one lane for about 45 minutes.

The Cortez Fire Protection District, Montezuma County Sheriff, Southwest Health System ambulance, and state patrol responded to the crash.
