“I’ve just been working on physical therapy, getting this Achilles back to what I think is going to be 100%. So far, it’s gone really well,” Tomac stated. “I’d say I’m a few weeks ahead of protocol, so for me it’s been a great recovery so far, and I think there’s more racing in my future.”

Tomac ruptured his Achilles tendon while racing for the Monster Energy AMA Supercross on May 6. He entered the race as the series leader, with two races to go and an 18-point lead over Chase Sexton, 338 to 320.

He underwent surgery in Vail the following day.

In an Instagram post made a few days after the injury, Tomac said that he slightly overjumped, and the “G-load” was too great for his Achilles.

“I’m basically at a loss of words right now for what happened,” he expressed. “I’ve overjumped plenty of other jumps just as hard, if not harder, and have been totally fine.”

Tomac grew up racing in McElmo Canyon outside Cortez, and is now known worldwide for Supercross and Motocross racing. He is a two-time Supercross champion in the 450 cc class and a four-time champion in the 450 Motocross. He is third on the all-time list of AMA Motocross and Supercross winners, with 95 victories, just three behind James Stewart. Ricky Carmichael is first, with 150.
