The 5K run for Escalante Days is scheduled for Aug. 12 at 8 a.m. this year. The race will take place at Flanders Park in Dolores. Runners, walkers, families and strollers are welcome to participate in the event. Dogs are not allowed because of insurance reasons.

Entry fees are $30 for adults and $15 for ages 18 and under if participants sign up before Aug. 5. After that date, prices rise to $40 for adults and $20 for ages 18 and under, according to the Escalante Days 5K Run website.

Registration includes a T-shirt, although only participants who signed up before July 23 can be guaranteed to receive one.

The proceeds go toward the Dolores middle and high schools’ cross-country programs. The funds help with travel and camp costs that the school budgets are unable to cover, said Kim Parr, who is the race director.

“We started this race as a fundraiser because we wanted to send our runners to summer camp,” Parr told a Journal reporter. “This is the third one we’ve done.”

Last year, 100 people participated in the event, Parr said. She said they hoped to have more people join in this year.

“There’s no limit on how many people we can have,” she said.

Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female of each age group. The age groups are 18 and under, 19-35, 36-50, 51-65, and 66 and above, according to the website. The run will happen no matter the weather, and no refunds will be issued.

“It's just a really fun community event. The Chamber does a great job with Escalante Days. We are thankful to Dolores for embracing us and letting us do this,” Parr said.

Race packets can be picked up at Flanders Park on Aug. 11 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. or from 6:45 to 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 12. Parr said it is preferred that participants sign up online prior packet pickup, but participants may register on Aug. 11 or 12 during packet pickup.
