Hundreds of people attended the Dolores Harvest Festival Saturday.

The expanded all-day event organized by the Dolores Chamber of Commerce featured fresh produce, competition events, a car show, live music and locally made apple cider.

“It brought a lot of people out, and that was really exciting to see,” said chamber director Susan Lisak.

She added multiple events this year, including a strongman and strongwoman competition, National FFA Organization petting zoo, a car show and chili contest.

“We were expecting 25 cars, but 50 came for the show,” Lisak said. More than 500 votes were cast for best cars and trucks. Models included Corvettes, Mustangs, Studebakers and Dodge Vipers.

Kid events were held too, including bobbing for apples, hay rides, three-legged race and doughnut on a string. Montezuma School to Farm provided pumpkins for kids to take home for Halloween.

Twenty-two adults competed in a strongman and strongwoman competition sponsored by CrossFit Cortez. Teams were timed on a variety of challenges, including hauling heavy buckets and flipping monster tractor tires.

For the car show, Ben Deason’s 1959 Triumph TR3a was named “best car,” Kyle Chadwick’s 1968 GMC four-wheel drive was “best truck,” PG West’s 1959 custom Corvette was “best in show,” and Lyle Rice’s custom Combine was “best rat rod.”

In the CrossFit Cortez competition, first place in the men’s team division went to Jason Eversole and Sean Fitzgerald. Airoughn Van Grandt and Maddisyn Van Grandt took first place in the women’s team division.

For the chili contest, Trudy Adkins took first place in the red chili category, and Brandy Randall took first place in the green chili category.
