Dolores golfers excel at state tournament

Dimery Plewe places 23rd; Kiara Lingenfelter, 36th

Competing at the Class 3A State Tournament at Elmwood Golf Club in Pueblo on May 21-22, two members of the Dolores High School girls’ golf team produced stellar results and capped off what was a successful season for the team.

Among the players who competed for Dolores was sophomore Dimery Plewe, who played in the state tournament for the first time in her high school career after missing last season with a knee injury. She shot scores of 97 and 87.

Plewe’s two-round total score of 42-over-par was good enough to put her in 23rd place overall in the Class 3A tournament, which included 83 players. Plewe’s second-round score ranked as the 15th-best during the tournament’s second day.

According to Dolores head coach Monica Plewe, Dimery Plewe indicated that she had a great experience at the state tournament even though she felt that she could have scored better on the tournament’s first day.

Also competing was sophomore Kiara Lingenfelter, who shot scores of 97 and 96 and placed 36th overall. Lingenfelter’s two-round total score represented a 16-shot improvement over her score at the tournament last year.

“Kiara was so grateful for all of her family who went to support her, and both girls were so thankful that (Kiselya) Plewe was there as an assistant coach,” wrote Monica Plewe.

Both players will spend the summer honing their swings. Joining them will be several members of this year’s team, including Kailey Case, who qualified for the state tournament as a first alternate this season.
