Dolores Elementary School students will bring holiday cheer with their showcase, themed “Magic in the Mountains.” Students voted on the theme.

“Students enthusiastically chose the theme and have been hard at work preparing for two joyful evenings of music and celebration,” Dolores Elementary School Principal Amanda Hill told The Journal.

Two performances are scheduled: kindergarten through second grade perform Monday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m., and third through fifth grades perform Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m.

Each grade selected songs to perform. The performances feature student-led introductions, keyboard and xylophone parts, and soloists, duets, trios and quartets to highlight each piece, Hill said.

On Dec. 16, fourth grade students perform an original mini play.

“A creative fourth grader sparked the idea for an original mini play, and the entire fourth grade jumped in to help bring the story to life by adding their own parts,” Hill said.

“To keep the magic alive during transitions,” three student musicians from Dolores’s secondary schools will perform, Hill said, calling it “another wonderful example of the growing connection between our elementary and secondary students.”

Several fourth- and fifth-grade students volunteered as technicians to manage sound, lights and props.

Following each night of performances, families can visit a donation-based bake sale hosted by the Dolores PTA. Proceeds will fund a new water-bottle filling station. Students will also receive a surprise classroom visit from a “special guest.”

“With music, storytelling, community support and a few festive surprises, the ‘Magic in the Mountains’ showcase promises to bring joy to students and families alike,” Hill said.
