In Dolores County, local races were contested for sheriff, clerk and recorder, and coroner.

Unaffiliated Don Wilson won a close race for sheriff, earning 636 votes (55 percent) compared with Republican David Harrington’s 520 votes. Wilson, who is a deputy with the Sheriff’s Office, replaces retiring Sheriff Jerry Martin.

“I will serve with integrity and respect for all of our Dolores County residents and visitors,” Wilson stated on his Facebook page.

Republican Lana Hancock was elected clerk and recorder, winning 753 votes (66 percent) compared with unaffiliated candidate Melissa Reid, who received 392. Hancock currently is clerk and treasurer for the town of Dolores in Montezuma County, and previously served as town manager.

Republican Aaron Hankins was elected as county coroner, winning 692 votes compared with unaffiliated Todd Parisi’s 444 votes. Hankins won with 61 percent of the vote and will replace current coroner Tom Myers.

Dolores County commissioner Julie Kibel, a Republican, was elected for another term. She ran unopposed.
