I believe that a brief update is warranted on what the Disabled American Veterans of Cortez’s mission is.
We use any and all legal opportunities to advance veterans’ programs. From camaraderie having a cup of coffee with like minded individuals, to having programs like a food pantry, mental health services, rides to and from doctors appointments and many more services.
So, even if a veteran is needing a hand up, they can still hold their head up high and not be judged by the community.
One of DAV’s activities is bringing veterans’ needs to our elected officials from both sides of the aisle. In fact, they should be seeking out what is needed in our communities.
If an elected official uses their “meet and greet” inappropriately, I have faith in our veteran community to discern that. But at least our needs are brought forward to our elected officials representing us.
