The city of Cortez will temporarily shut off water service in the area around South Chestnut Street and West Seventh Street so crews can perform an emergency water valve replacement at the intersection.
The valve replacement is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday. The city advised residents in the area to prepare for the water shut-off by filling containers with water needed for drinking, cooking and other needs ahead of the shut-off.
“While crews will work to restore service as quickly as possible, unexpected issues may extend the outage,” the city said in an announcement. “We appreciate your patience as these important infrastructure repairs are completed.”
After the repair, some residents may experience temporary cloudiness or turbidity in their water, but the city noted that this is normal following valve work. The water will clear “as the system stabilizes,” the city said.
Questions about the work can be directed to the Cortez Service Center at (970) 565-7320.
