Six running for three open seats
Wendy Mimiaga and Rocky Moss draw names from a hat on March 9 to determine the order of candidates on the ballot for the Cortez Fire Protection District’s board of directors election.

The Cortez Fire Protection District will hold an election for its board of directors on May 8.

Friday morning, administrators held a drawing to decide the name placement of the candidates on the ballot.

The Cortez Fire Protection District is a special Colorado district and is governed by an elected board of directors.

Elections are held every other year, following the first Monday in May.

The 2018 election will be held May 8. Polling will take place at the fire station at 30 Ash St. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The district has six candidates running for three open seats on the board of directors.

The two incumbents are Sherri Wright and Buck Woodman. Additional candidates are Jim Bridgewater, Bradley Lynn Ray, Jan Nelson and Les Rogers.

Bridgewater has served on the board before, but not since 2014.

One seat up for re-election is held by board secretary and treasurer Kent Lindsay, who is term-limited and cannot run again. He has served for eight years.

The names to appear on the ballot were chosen Friday morning in the following order: Sherri Wright, Jan Nelson, Bradly Lynn Ray, James Bridgewater, Buck Woodman and Les Rogers.
