Constitution Week in Cortez

Mayor Karen Sheek on Sept. 11 signed a proclamation stating that Constitution Week would be celebrated Sept. 17-23 in Cortez. Cathy Stone, left, and Helen Small joined Sheek for the signing. The U.S. Constitution, adopted by the American Congress of the Confederation on Sept. 17, 1787, is 231 years old. The observance was enacted on Aug. 2, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower from a congressional resolution petitioned by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
