Colorado high school seniors have the chance to receive a scholarship to pay for most of their education at whatever college or university in the United States they choose.

The 2024 Daniels Scholarship Program application is open for Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming high school seniors until 4 p.m. on Oct. 15.

The program, established by the cable television pioneer Bill Daniels, gives motivated students the chance to attend any two-or four-year nonprofit, accredited college of their choice.

According to a news release, the full cost of attendance will be covered at partner schools located in Utah, New Mexico, Wyoming and Colorado. The partner schools can be viewed on the Daniels Fund website.

Academics who wish to attend a school outside of the Daniel Fund’s four-state region can receive up to $100,000 over four years ($25,000 per year) to reach educational costs. Additionally, those who attend schools within the four-state region, but are not a partner school, can receive $30,000 over four years ($7,500 per year) for educational expenses.

All awardees will receive leadership development opportunities, networking opportunities, career development support and a laptop.

The 2024 Daniels Fund expects to grant close to 200 scholarships to 2024’s graduating class in March.

More than $250 million has been awarded to over 5,000 scholars since 2000, with 13 scholars from Montezuma County. In 2018, four local students were covered in The Journal who received the scholarship.

Eligibility requirements for student applicants include:

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • The applicant’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must have an adjusted gross income of $100,000 or less on their 2022 tax return where the applicant is claimed as a dependent. Additional income is allowed for other dependents.
  • Earn a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 in high school (on an unweighted 4.0 scale).
  • Be a resident of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah or Wyoming.
  • Earn a minimum SAT math score of 490 and a minimum evidence-based reading and writing score of 490, or a minimum ACT score of 18 in each category (excluding the writing score).
  • Be a graduating high school senior.
