Collision on Colorado Highway 145 causes injuries

Driver cited for careless driving, taken to hospital with serious injuries

A two-vehicle crash Saturday on Colorado Highway 145 north of Cortez injured three people, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The crash occurred at the intersection of County Road M about 4 p.m.

Trooper Josh Lewis said a 2013 Lexus that was driving west on Road M entered the intersection and failed to yield to a 2005 Toyota SUV traveling north on the highway.

The Lexus driver, Lloyd Hunt, was cited for careless driving, Lewis said.

Hunt was taken to Southwest Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the 2005 Toyota SUV was taken to Southwest Memorial with moderate injuries. She was cited for not wearing a seat belt, Lewis said.

Two boys were in the Toyota, and one suffered minor injuries, he said.

The highway, temporarily limited to alternating traffic because of the collision, was fully reopened by 5:11 p.m., according to a Nixle message from the Montezuma County Emergency Alert system.
