Calling all elves: 32nd annual Parade of Lights on its way

This year’s parade is all about helping others without expecting recognition

The Four Corners Board of Realtors is seeking the help of Santa’s local helpers to produce this year’s 32nd annual Parade of Lights.

Stan Pierce, 50-year local Realtor and this year’s grand marshal, inspired the parade theme: “All Santa’s Helpers,” said Terry McCabe, parade organizer and Four Corners Board of Realtors member.

Pierce, the elder member on the Four Corners Board of Realtors — and who McCabe describes as the patriarch of the organization, is selfless in his endeavors to help others, she said.

She wants the parade to dole out recognition to those who normally don’t expect it for their acts of kindness.

“He (Pierce) does things for other people – people don't even know how much he does,” she said. “But that's kind of the hope: that individuals that do the same thing –and there's a lot of them out there – will be a part of the parade and be recognized as well.”

In line with this year’s theme, the judges of the floats will be members of nonprofits. A first-, second- and third-place prize, sponsored by Four Corners Board of Realtors members and affiliates, will be awarded to floats in each of the three parade categories – commercial, nonprofit and other, which includes individuals, school and clubs.

Judges, stationed at the north corner of Market and Main streets, will evaluate participants for music and lights, creativity, theme development and workmanship.

Floats will line up on South Maple Street and will travel along the north side of Main Street to North Park.

The north side of Main Street will be closed for parking.

So far, about 10 groups have signed up to participate, McCabe said.

Last year, there were about 65 entries, and the year before, almost 80, she said.

The last day to enter is Dec. 2 at 5 p.m., and forms should be returned in person to the Re/Max office at 1624 E. Main RE/MAX or by email to terrymc@move2swcolo.com.

Don’t worry about the weather, she said. The parade is happening no matter what.

Mesa Media will livestream the event.
