Broncos will visit Cortez on April 21

Cortez is the first of 11 Colorado cities on the Denver Broncos Salute to Fans tour this spring.

According to a Broncos press release, several players and cheerleaders, along with the Broncos mascot, Miles, will arrive at Parque de Vida at 4:30 p.m. on April 21. The two-hour event will include opportunities to get autographs and photos of the players. The tour stop is free and open to the public.

The Broncos said the event includes “Broncos-themed activities” and giveaways. Other details will be up to the city.

Marisol Villagomez, the team’s manager of fan development who is helping to organize the tour, wouldn’t disclose which players would come. She said Cortez was chosen because the Broncos haven’t visited here in recent years, and city officials reached out to the team during the planning phases of the tour.

“It’s an opportunity for us to thank the fans for supporting us throughout the year,” she said.

Cortez special events coordinator Jonathon Brooks took credit for inviting the Broncos to include Cortez. He said it’s the city’s biggest event for the next few months.

The Broncos also will hold a private “junior training camp” through El Pomar Foundation for a few local youth programs.

Villagomez said Parque de Vida suits the tour, “because it’s a very lively event.” She said she hoped to see a large turnout.

This is the fifth annual Salute to Fans tour. Last year’s tour had only five stops, including Durango and Montrose.

The tour is sponsored by U.S. Bank, El Pomar Foundation and Lazydays RV, which will provide the RV in which Broncos players will arrive.

Other stops on the tour, which lasts through June 3, will include Del Norte, Trinidad, Fort Morgan, Woodland Park, Aurora, Gunnison, Canon City, Steamboat Springs, Aspen and Fort Collins.
