On Wednesday, Dec. 13 around 8 p.m., officer Jason Giacchino and Officer Michael Rivas arrested Brett Robsion, a man who had previously been released from the county jail.

When Giacchino initiated the traffic stop, he called for backup from Rivas, who arrived to find an unidentified man in the back seat of a white Chevy truck, according to the incident report from Rivas.

When Giacchino informed Rivas that he had been unable to identify the male, Officer Rivas approached and asked for the man’s identity. The man told the officers that his name was Brett Robsion, and a call from dispatch informed the officers that there was a warrant from the Montezuma Combined Courts out for Robsion’s arrest.

Robsion was then transported to the Montezuma County Detention Center by Officer Rivas.

This was not Robsion’s first encounter with police in Cortez this year.

On Nov. 16, Robsion was arrested near Kemper Elementary about 10:05 a.m. after police receiving a call from a concerned citizen about an adult male potentially carrying a concealed firearm near the elementary school.

Officer Shane Fletcher, who responded to the call, observed the firearm to be a 12-gauge shotgun after Robsion obeyed orders to place the weapon on the ground. He had been carrying the shotgun under a sweatshirt.

According to Robsion, he was going to sell the firearm for $50 at a friend’s home.

The firearm measured at a length of 18 inches, making it an “illegal or dangerous weapon.” The weapon had five shells inside though the chamber was unloaded.

Robsion was cited with possession of an illegal or dangerous weapon and for carrying a concealed firearm.

At the time, Robsion had no felonies or warrants, and he was later released after being arrested by Fletcher.
