Several competitions originally scheduled for Tuesday were postponed or canceled as COVID surges.

The Ignacio girls basketball team scheduled for Tuesday night at Montezuma-Cortez canceled “due to COVID reasons,” said IHS Athletic Director Leo Garand in an email.

That game will be rescheduled for a later date.

Bayfield’s girls basketball team, scheduled to play Durango’s junior varsity Tuesday, was canceled “due to COVID issues,” said BHS coach Lauren Moran.

Bayfield’s other games this week also were called off.

“We just got word from the district that all school and activities are canceled for the rest of the week,” Moran said Tuesday afternoon.

Ignacio’s boys and girls wrestlers were scheduled to host Del Norte and Dove Creek in a triangular meet Tuesday, but the event was scratched.

“After trying to match up weights on skeletal dual teams, coach (Jordan) Larsen and myself have come to the conclusion that It would not be advantageous to hold the ti-meet tomorrow,” Garand said in an email Monday.

Ignacio, however, picked up matches on Jan. 28 against Montezuma-Cortez and Bayfield.
