Athlete of the week: Kiselya Plewe

Plewe

Blessed with plenty of athleticism and lots of moxie, Montezuma-Cortez High School sophomore Kiselya Plewe is quickly evolving into one of Cortez’s brightest stars.

The starting point guard on the M-CHS basketball team, Plewe enjoyed a solid sophomore season as a scorer and distributer.

A former student athlete at Dolores High School, Plewe transitioned well to the larger crowds and tougher competition that comes with playing at a larger school.

“My first game was intimidating and a little scary,” said Plewe. “It was a great experience though.”

In addition to her basketball acumen, Plewe is also a standout golfer, starring for the Dolores High School golf team.

Preparing for this, her second high school season, Plewe is hoping to make a giant impact on the links.

“I’ve been playing a really long time, ever since I was five or six,” said the sophomore. “I hope to get to state (this season) and do well there.”

More than just an athlete, Plewe is a stellar student who earns straight A’s while remaining involved in the local community through her local church.

“I work hard in school,” said Plewe.

Listing math and U.S. history as her favorite classes, Plewe hopes to play golf in college while studying computer engineering.

Certainly a standout on the court, on the links and in the classroom, the future appears bright for the personable sophomore as she continues to reach for the stars.
