League of Women Voters plans introduction to ‘History Horizon’

The Journal

The League of Women Voters of Montezuma County will meet on April 13, at 10 a.m. at the Dolores Public Library. The speaker will be Ken Walker, a grandfather of seven and a recent graduate of Fort Lewis College, who is currently a student in media psychology at Fielding Graduate University. Walker will be talking about “History Horizon,” a concept of looking at the past in order to create a better future.

“History often repeats itself” is a common phrase. Walker examines why and how society can break that cycle through digital storytelling.

Walker recently created a video to influence the administration of Fort Lewis College to reinstate a former tradition of allowing Native American students to participate in graduation ceremonies wearing their tribal regalia openly. For about 10 years, students have been required to cover up their Native dress with a cap and gown. The college administration did allow the students to wear their tribal regalia at the December 2018 graduation.

League meetings are open to the public.
