9:45 p.m.: A deputy responded to 10401 Road 29 near Totten Lake, Cortez, for a report of a protection order violation. A woman and her boyfriend were fishing when the woman received threatening text messages and a voicemail from a number that she believed came from a former boyfriend. The deputy escorted the woman, her boyfriend and a friend to their vehicle. Contact was made with the suspect by phone, but he denied involvement and said he had been home. After the deputy cleared the scene, the woman received another threatening message from the same number. The investigation continues.
11:17 p.m.: A deputy responded to a residence on Road F in Cortez for a report of a possible brush fire. A man was found standing next to a fire burning inside a fire pit that contained batteries and other electronic items he believed may have ignited it. Fire personnel said the explanation was plausible and that the fire was largely confined to the pit with little vegetation involved. No charges were filed.
3:46 a.m.: A deputy was flagged down at a Maverik Gas Station and learned of an assault that occurred earlier at the Upper Sand Canyon Trailhead. A man reported that a woman asked for help with her vehicle, but after he followed her there, another man opened his truck door, allegedly punched him in the eye and made threats. The deputy said he would contact the other individuals.
7:14 p.m.: A deputy responded to the area of 46500 U.S. Highway 160 near the top of Mancos Hill after open-line and subsequent 911 calls. A woman reported that a man took her phone while she tried to call 911, scratched her, pushed her in the chest and fled on foot. Fresh scratch marks and redness were observed. The man was not located after a search. A warrant was sought for the man on suspicion of harassment, domestic violence and obstruction of telephone service.
7:35 a.m.: A deputy on patrol in Dolores observed that a black bear had opened a trash receptacle on North 18th Street and consumed trash inside. No ordinance violation was found.
8:01 a.m.: A deputy on patrol in Dolores observed that a black bear had consumed unsecured human trash in front of a residence Colorado Highway 145. A citation was issued to a man for failure to secure trash in a bear-resistant receptacle as required by town ordinance.
12:03 p.m.: A deputy responded to the Montezuma Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St. in Cortez, to transport a remanded man to the Montezuma County Detention Center on traffic-related charges.
4:43 a.m.: A deputy responded to a residence on Road G. 1 in Cortez for a report of property damage. A man reported that a woman keyed his vehicle after an argument over money, but he did not witness the act. A fresh scratch across the hood with paint shavings was observed and photographed. Multiple attempts to contact the woman were unsuccessful. The case was closed for lack of leads.
10:31 a.m.: A deputy responded to the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St. in Cortez, for warrant service. A man already in custody was advised of two warrants.
4:56 p.m.: A deputy responded to the area of Colorado Highway 145 and Road 36 near Dolores for a traffic accident. A man reported falling asleep at the wheel, going into a ditch, overcorrecting across both lanes and ending up in the opposite ditch before recovering and pulling over. Limited vehicle damage was noted. A state trooper took over the investigation.
12:27 a.m.: A deputy responded to the 34000 block of U.S. Highway 160 in Mancos for a welfare check on people walking on the shoulder. One man was found to have a warrant and was arrested.
12:33 a.m.: A deputy responded to North Mesa Street in Mancos to assist with a reported disturbance. Two juveniles were observed with minor injuries. They stated they had tripped and fallen and provided no further details.
8:22 a.m.: A deputy responded to a residence on South Fifth Street in Dolores for a report of a bear that got into a trash bin. The bin was on its side with contents scattered. Contact was made with one of the owners by phone, and a citation was prepared for the ordinance violation to be served upon their return.
11:22 p.m.: A deputy responded to Road 34 in Mancos for a report of domestic violence. A woman walking down the road reported a verbal disagreement with her boyfriend. No further action was taken after she stated there would be no further issues.
9:32 a.m.: A deputy responded regarding an alleged restraining order violation at a residence on Road M in Cortez that occurred the previous day. Camera footage and statements indicated a man went to the residence of a woman who had a protection order against him on two occasions, conversed with her and later returned. Attempts to contact the man were unsuccessful. An arrest warrant was to be sought.
