A 56-year-old Dolores woman was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash Sunday afternoon on Colorado Highway 145 about 12 miles northeast of Dolores.

The single-vehicle crash was reported about 1:40 p.m. near mile post 25. The motorcyclist was flown to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, said Sherri Mendez, spokeswoman with the Colorado State Patrol.

The cause of the crash, including whether drugs or alcohol are suspected, remained under investigation as of Monday, Mendez said.

The silver Yamaha V Star was driving north on Highway 145 when the driver collided with the guardrail on the right side of the highway. The driver ejected from the motorcycle, slid along the top of the guardrail and landed in the northbound lane, she said.

“The motorcycle then continued northbound without the rider, crossing both lanes of travel before traveling off the shoulder,” she said.

The driver was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Mendez declined to identify the motorcyclist, citing the pending investigation.

Conditions of the roadway at the time of the crash remained under investigation, she said.

Mendez did not have any information about citations issued in the crash.

Highway 145 was closed for a little more than an hour as a result of the crash.
