Travel delays expected during surface treatments between Elmore’s Corner and Durango

Lane closures and reduced speed limit could cause congested traffic
Colorado Department of Transportation announced nighttime surface treatments starting Sunday, June 14, will cause travel delays between Elmore’s Corner and Three Springs in Durango because of reduced lanes and lower speeds 24/7. Surface treatments on U.S. Highway 160 west of Elmore’s Corner beginning Sunday and continuing for several weeks are expected to cause travel delays, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Although operations will be conducted at nighttime, daytime travelers should prepare for delays because of reduced lanes and slower speeds that will remain in place for the duration of the project, CDOT said in a news release Thursday.

Paving and milling operations beginning Sunday are projected to last about three weeks and will be carried out from milepost 90 at Elmore’s Corner to milepost 92 in Three Springs.

CDOT advised drivers to use the Grandview Interchange and Wilson Gulch Drive to reach Three Springs and Mercy Hospital. A map shows lane closures will be active on U.S. 160 from the intersection at Elmore’s Corner west past Three Springs Boulevard.

Operations will be conducted from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., CDOT said. Drivers will encounter lane closures in both directions, congested traffic during daytime travel and may face up to 15-minute delays during nighttime operations. Speeds in the work zone will be reduced to 40 mph.

“Motorists can expect daytime delays in both directions to continue throughout the summer as milling and paving operations progress from east to west,” CDOT said in the release.
