A 13‑year‑old Indigenous girl reported missing in Cortez on Feb. 25 was located safe on March 29, according to a redacted police report recently obtained by The Journal.

Dior Orange was located with another missing juvenile at Sleeping Ute Apartments, 516 S. Madison St. on March 29 around 7:30 p.m.

Though reportedly initially running from the police, the juveniles identified themselves and were taken to the police department, where the social services workers for the Ute Mountain Tribe took custody of them.

Orange was last seen walking eastbound on the 400 block of West Second Street in February when she went missing.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation activated a Missing Indigenous Person Alert following her disappearance.
